CALL SIGN HISTORY

First licensed in Greenwood, South Carolina in August 1957 as KN4ROB when the 'N' indicated Novice class.  The rig was a Hallicrafter's S-53A with a Heathkit QF-1 Q-Multiplier.  The transmitter was a crystal controlled WRL Globe Chief into a dipole antenna.

Upgraded to Conditional License (General) in 1958 dropping the 'N' and receiving the call K4ROB.  The rig was an RME4350A receiver and a Heath DX-100B transmitter.   I still have the RME4350A!

Received call WØGTB in August 1962 in St. Charles, Missouri.  WØGTB was never on the air.

Received call
W9GQW in March 1963 in East Alton, Illinois.  Again, W9GQW was never on the air.

Received call WØIZX in Florissant, Missouri in December 1964.  The rig was the RME4350A receiver and a Johnson Viking Ranger Transmitter.  The antenna was a Hygain 14AVQ vertical.  Upgraded to the Advanced class license in 1968.

Moved back to Greenwood, South Carolina in 1974 receiving the present call K4KXO.  The rig was a Drake TR-4 transceiver and dipole antennas.

Now in Lexington, South Carolina, the rig is:  Yaesu FT-1000MP Mk V transceiver and a Yaesu FT-840 transceiver as backup.  The antennas are a Gap Titan vertical and a 120 foot dipole center fed with 450 ohm window line through an MFJ-986 antenna tuner.  For 2 meters, a Ringo Ranger and a Kenwood TM-261A do the job for local repeaters.  Upgraded to Extra class license in April 2000 (@20 wpm).
